Burera District, like many rural areas, faces challenges related to youth unemployment and its associated social issues. The lack of structured opportunities and skill-building programs can lead young people toward risky behaviors. YESI Creative Hub offers a direct solution by equipping them with practical, in-demand skills. This initiative directly addresses critical community issues such as unemployment, drug and substance abuse, and teen pregnancies by providing young people with tangible vocational skills and a sustainable pathway to economic independence. The hub will begin with two vocational trades—tailoring and shoemaking—for an initial cohort of eight young individuals, with a long-term vision to expand into other trades like ICT, hair styling etc. and to establish a community library. This project is a proactive and preventative measure that fosters a positive and productive environment for youth, aligning with Rwanda's National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) on Economic Transformation. YESI Creative Hub will:
- Foster local manufacturing: The hub will create locally-made goods, reducing reliance on imports and stimulating the local economy.
- Enhance value-added services: The skills acquired by the youth are not just for personal use but for creating marketable products and providing services.
- Create employment and entrepreneurship: The hub is designed to be a self-sustaining enterprise, enabling its members to transition from trainees to entrepreneurs.
This initiative is a strategic investment in
human capital that contributes to the broader national goals of economic
diversification and youth empowerment.
